DIVERSIDAD GENÉTICA Y MEJORAMIENTO DE PLANTAS MEDICINALES= Medicinal plants and improvement of medicinal herbs:

Plantago tomentosa Lam. was studied to its identification as drug (powder, tinctures, extracts, etc). There were described the main hystological elements present at the leaves: tector and glandular hairs, leaf epiderms and structural arrangement of the mesophill. The chemistry identification was made by the chromatographic outline of the saponin and/or flavonoid fractions. Tanins gave insatisfactory chromatograms, with condensated stains.

Propiedades:
Eupéptico, digestivo, antiséptico, antidisentérico y antiinflamatorio.
Indicaciones:
Es muy eficaz para combatir el ardor de estómago, afecciones de las vías respiratorias, diarreas, disentería, flemas y catarros bronquiales. Las gárgaras con el té de llantén sirven para combatir las inflamaciones de la boca y de la garganta, encías sanguinolentas; así como para curar las anginas y parotiditis. Las gárgaras con el té disminuyen la hinchazón de las amígdalas, evitando la operación. Las hojas frescas machacadas, empleadas en forma de emplasto, curan las úlceras.
